The Hills Are Alive 6 Pack
6 bottles from 6 of the Adelaide Hills most exciting producers
Dayspring, Scintilla 2019
Direct pressed organic Chardonnay from Mt compass & biodynamic Verdelho from McLaren Vale aged in old french barriques for 12 months on fine lees.create this ode to the old school Aussie “White Burgundy” or as we know it these day as “Classic Dry White”.
Skinsy Gewürztraminer, Yetti & the Kokonut 2019
The Gewürztraminer was kept 14 days on skins and pressed to tank. Super complex, turkish delight, rose petals, white pepper with freshly cut lemon to keep it moving. Just like a peaceful march where all colours, races and religions take a part in and nobody stops walking! This is Gewüztraminer but not as you know it. A good stint on skins has elevated this above the typical Gewürz standing. The palate weight, the soft chalkiness, and the hyper-floral aromatics all ratcheted up to 11 in this release. This is an electric rendition of Gewürztraminer from the boys, and their favourite release this year.
Borachio Flat Out 2019
Semi carbonic Merlot, topped up with rosé. Fresh strawberries, saltwater pool, leading to a savoury herbaceous finish. Inbetween a rosé & light red. Chill it down.
Audrey's Fairygarten Shiraz, Jauma 2019
The fruit for all Jauma wines is farmed organically by Fiona Wood and Dave Gartelman. Grapes are hand-picked, vinified naturally and bottled without any additions. These are living wines – home to healthy bacteria and yeast from remaining sugars, tannins and acids, which are metabolised for energy and release gas in doing so – so expect a tickle of fizz (sometimes). But, as the wine warms up the gasses leave and the aromas will further unfurl. Chill; or don’t.
Vinteloper Touriga Nacional 2017
Dave Bowley is doing some very good things out of his Adelaide Hills winery. This Touriga Nacional is one of those things. It is grown in the warm, rich soils of Langhorne Creek, the climate ideally suited to this hero Portuguese variety. Bowley's is a modern, bright, beautifully perfumed version of the grape and has a more-ish quality that makes it near impossible to put down. If you've never met this unique Portuguese variety, this is one of the most approachable and interesting versions that we have seen.
Waning Crescent Syrah BK Wines 2019
Named each year for the phase of the moon when BK harvests this stunning biodynamic vineyard. Syrah from this vineyard often shows on the dark-but-fresh blueberry end of the flavour spectrum, but this year has dipped deeper still into mulberry territory. Baked mulberry pie served with cream and sprinkled with Chinese five spice and white pepper. A hint of bitter just to keep it grown up and a firm but chalky tannic structure. Definitely one for those post-lockdown dinner parties you’ll be planning.
