Semillon, Continental Platter 2019
Semillon. Margaret River, W.A
The dry-grown vines are located in the biodynamically-farmed McHenry Hohnen vineyard in Margaret River, three hours south of Perth in Western Australia, planted in 1988 grow in ancient sandy, schisty soils.
Australian Muscadet! Or Picpoul, if you prefer to be on trend. Pure, crisp and raw. The nose suggests herbs – dried mint and oregano – and lemon/lime zest at the same time. Packed full of citrus, a hint of peach stone, and super crunchy. Have the platter with a platter – of seafood.
Continental Platter is a partnership between Les Caves de Pyrene and Puncheon Bottles, born from an unrewarding search for big-production, Australian wines that they not only wanted to drink but that were also available for distribution in the local Australian and UK markets. Together with winemaker Patrick Sullivan, they have embarked on a winemaking project with the focus on producing a range of Australian wines from carefully sourced, quality fruit and delivering them to the market at exceptional value.
